At the start of any rocknroll wave, those who arrived first, the originators, are also the best.
Quality goes hand in hand with chronology as shows the story of Danny Boy who, under is real name, Claude Piron, has been among the very first singers to adopt rocknroll in France, and in french, during the late fifties. The draft put a stop on his hopes of making it big. Fortunately,
when he came back, he tried again, this time as Danny Boy. The boys in his backing band hid his their faces, no as a wink to the KKK - some of them were black ! -, but in relation to their collective name, Les Pénitents... Danny Boy rocked his way to the top with songs that remain
favorites of this genre fanatics. He then embarked on a solo carreer, mixing rock, twist, pop, beat, etc. Two songs dating from the Pénitents days are on this CD heard in alternative from, the funny and frenetic Ah ! Quel massacre and Un collier de tes bras, french version of Wear My Ring Around Your Neck, recorded live. The remaining 22 tracks are from the solo period. Danny is a first class singer wether he covers in french Teardrops Fall Like Rain (Bobby Vee), A Mess of Blues (Elvis) or is the first to record Ma Solitude, a great melody offered him by Charles Aznavour !
